It's very, very interesting and important what is happening in relation to this in the U.K., in Canada, Australia, and so on. It used to be a net importer of bad ideas, principally from the old continent, but within recent years America has generated and then propagated and pushed out a whole set of new ideologies, very radical ideologies, which I've written about in recent books, the last book The Madness of Crowd in particular and now in The War on the West.Īnd I believe that if you're going to try to confront, critique, understand, and much more of these ideologies, you have to be at the absolute center of the argument. There's a lot of reasons why I'm here, but the main one is that it's been my view for some time that the U.S. How's that working out for you? Do you like the water better over here?ĭouglas Murray: I love the water in the United States. You spent most of your time there, but you've recently translated to the United States, at least for a while. Gerard Baker: Congratulations on the book, and I should say you, like me, are a Brit who's much younger than I am, but you grew up in Britain.
